Breckenridge H. S. Wins Minnesota Suicide Prevention Student Video Competition
Home Page Photo Suicide Awareness Voices of Education (SAVE), the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) and the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) are pleased to congratulate Breckenridge High School, winner of the Minnesota Suicide Prevention Student Video Competition.

Breckenridge High School was selected from a field of 13 entries representing schools throughout Minnesota. The video produced by Breckenridge was chosen by a review committee comprised of experts from the field of suicide prevention and representatives from SAVE and the MSHSL. The 6-minute video was selected for its overall production quality and for its outstanding depiction of students taking action to identify a suicidal classmate and taking the proper steps necessary to help their friend.

The competition is the culmination of a two-year, state-wide suicide prevention public awareness campaign produced by SAVE and funded through a grant from MDH. The awareness campaign included public service announcements, education materials and technical training programs. Suicide is a public health crisis that is the 11th leading cause of death in the U.S. and the 2nd leading cause of death among 10-24 year olds in Minnesota.

The video has been distributed as a 60-second public service announcement and made available to member high schools in Minnesota through the Leagues TeamUp Program. A full version of the video is also available on the League’s website www.mshsl.org. For more information on suicide prevention visit the SAVE website www.save.org.
